Traits and quirks: effects, vet tests and foal inheritance

Open the folder next to the horse’s name in the stable to read known traits in Horse Info. For hidden testable traits, open Medical, use the kit’s phone and choose Test Traits and Quirks; the launch report gives a 200-coin fee. A vet test does not reveal every trait. Use the table to separate care needs, riding behaviour and breeding effects.

Compare the 14 traits in the launch report

The specific effects and test/inheritance flags below are reported by Johan’s November 2026 traits guide. They describe the game’s named traits, not a diagnosis from appearance. An Inheritance trait affects a foal’s potential but is not itself passed down as an inherited trait.

Find known traits, then test the hidden ones that matter

Use Horse Info’s trait list first. Medical → phone → Test Traits and Quirks reveals hidden traits marked Yes in the table. Unknown Inheritance traits still affect the offspring, while the Lab preview uses discovered traits only; test an unfamiliar breeding parent before relying on its preview.

After calling the vet from Medical, choose Test Traits and Quirks. The shown 200-coin option is distinct from the potential test above it.

Reveal other traits through the relevant activity

Snacky and Cuddly can appear through treats or useful scritches below the Confidence cutoff. Neat Freak and Mud Lover can emerge after time in the yard; Good Mom appears when her foal becomes a yearling. For riding traits, the report describes finishing a run longer than 30 seconds, with full Confidence required for Rebellious. Check Horse Info afterwards. A negative vet test does not rule out traits that the vet cannot test.

Choose traits for the horse’s job

For daily care, watch body condition on Easy/Hard Keepers and allow more exercise work for Energetic horses. For high-Confidence riding, Rebellious still needs pace corrections. For breeding, keep Good Mom’s starting-stat benefit separate from Inheritance’s potential effect. Good Mom is mare-only, and Inheritance traits do not occur on geldings.

Check incompatible pairs and avoid breeding guarantees

Easy/Hard Keeper, Neat Freak/Mud Lover, Sure Footed/Injury Prone and Good/Bad Inheritance exclude each other. A horse can have only one of Rebellious, Energetic and Chill. A Yes in the inheritance column means a trait can pass, not that it will; foals can also gain random traits of their own.
